Parents are a very important resource for helping girls to cope with relational aggression and to develop skills to foster positive alliances and friendships. Some ways you can help:
- Offer support and empathy when your daughter feels hurt or alone.
- Manage your own reactions to her situation so that you don’t make things worse.
- Model and reinforce healthy relationship skills.
- Teach and practice constructive skills for dealing with anger, jealousy, or insecurity.
- Help her find activities and resources which develop her skills and confidence.
- Encourage her to critique and challenge media influences which convey limiting or distorted roles for girls and women.
